Anton's largest religious festival honors the venerated Cristo de Esquipulas (a dark-skinned Christ image from the early 1700s) housed in the San Juan Bautista Basilica. Novenas run from January 6, and on January 15 thousands of pilgrims join a procession through town followed by a large open-air evening Mass in Anton's central park.
