A quieter, reflective holiday
Semana Santa (Holy Week) is one of Panama’s most important religious periods, culminating at Easter — in 2026, the week of 29 March to 5 April. It’s more solemn than Carnival, but just as significant.
What happens
- Processions and church services in towns across the country, especially in the interior.
- A national exodus to the beaches over the long weekend.
- Quieter cities as many businesses close from Thursday.
Travel notes
Alcohol sales are often restricted on certain days, beaches and highways are packed, and accommodation books out early. Plan ahead if you’re travelling.
