Founded in 2010 and named after Panama’s endangered golden frog, La Rana Dorada was a pioneer of the country’s craft beer movement. Its flagship Casco Viejo brewpub occupies what is said to be the old quarter’s oldest private house, all exposed stone and timber, with beers brewed on site.
The rotating taps span pilsners, pale ales, porters, and Belgian-style and seasonal brews, poured alongside a crowd-pleasing menu of bar bites, hearty plates, and acclaimed sourdough pizzas. It is a relaxed, sociable place to drink well without pretension.
La Rana Dorada suits beer lovers, casual dinners, and easygoing nights out; there are additional locations around the city, but the Casco Viejo pub has the most atmosphere.
